Ultrasonography in Hydronephrosis
نویسنده
چکیده
Ultrasound is very sensitive in diagnosing obstruction by demonstrating hydronephrosis (1, 2). Ultrasonography has great advantage over IVU in patients who have azotemia, contrast materialinduced allergy, are pregnant, fetal, or pediatric patients with no exposure to radiation. And ultrasonography can nicely visualize the both the renal parenchyma and the collecting system as well as causative lesion itself (both intrinsic and extrinsic). Hydronephrosis is graded as mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), or sever (grade 3) (3). Mild hydronephrosis can be simulated by prominent renal vessels and false-positive studies for obstruction are common in patients suspected of having mild hydronephrosis. Dopler or color Doppler ultrasonography will distinguish prominent renal vessels from mild hydronephrosis (Fig 1). Cho Song-Mee, Kyung-Sik Cho

Is urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase a marker of urological abnormality in children?
Abstract Background: Hydronephrosis is the most common congenital condition that is detected by prenatal ultrasonography. Moreover, the widespread use of prenatal ultrasonography results in an increased recognition of fetal hydronephrosis. Prenatal hydronephrosis is diagnosed at an incidence of 1:100 to 1:500 by ultrasonographic studies. The presence of hydronephrosis is not synonymou...
متن کاملOne-Year Follow-Up of Radiologic and Clinical Findings in Children with Prenatal and Neonatal Hydronephrosis
Background & Aims: Hydronephrosis is a common problem in prenatal and newborn infants diagnosed by ultrasonography. Bladder to ureter reflux, the upper or lower urinary tract obstruction, and neurogenic bladder are the most common causes of hydronephrosis in newborns and infants. Methods: In this study, 100 neonates and infants with hydronephrosis were observed clinically and laboratorically fo...
متن کاملEvaluation of neonatal hydronephrosis with diuretic renography
The common use of maternal ultrasonography has increased the apparent incidence of neonatal hydronephrosis. Many of these cases are found to have partial obstruction at the ureteropelvic junction (UPJ). These patients are safely managed in our institution with careful observation and only occasionally require surgical intervention. The authors present two contrastin...
متن کاملCorrelation between anteroposterior renal pelvic diameter and vesicoureteral reflux in congenital hydronephros
Introduction: One of the most common findings in prenatal evaluation is congenital hydronephrosis. The correct diagnosis is of great value. This study was conducted to find the correlation between Anteroposterior Renal Pelvic Diameter (APD), which is detected by postnatal ultrasonography, and Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) in neonates and infants with congenital hydronephrosis. Therefore, this stu...
متن کاملMeasurable changes in hydronephrosis during pregnancy induced by positional changes: ultrasonic assessment and its diagnostic implication.
INTRODUCTION Unilateral or bilateral dilation of the ureters occurs commonly during pregnancy. Ultrasonography is a suitable diagnostic method for hydronephrosis; however, it cannot differentiate obstructive from nonobstructive hydronephrosis. Our aim was to evaluate measurable changes in hydronephrosis induced by a mother's positional changes using ultrasonography to differentiate hydronephros...
متن کاملUltrasonography of hydronephrosis in the newborn: a practical review
Widespread use of fetal ultrasonography is accompanied by more frequent detection of antenatal hydronephrosis. Therefore, sonographic evaluation of neonates with a history of antenatal hydronephrosis is becoming more widespread. As an initial postnatal non-invasive imaging modality, ultrasonography is used to screen for persistence of hydronephrosis, determine the level and severity of obstruct...
